Canadian citizenship guide – Check out the requirements for becoming a citizen in Canada

Anyone who applies for or retains Canadian citizenship must pass a citizenship test. The purpose of this test is to assess a person’s knowledge of Canada. If someone fails the written test, they will be asked to interview and have the opportunity to answer the questions verbally.

Canada is a multicultural society, with approximately 170,000 permanent residents as citizens. The regular application process takes 15-19 months, so it is difficult to obtain citizenship. You must be fully prepared to complete this process.

Claim

The first thing you need to clarify is the eligibility requirements. Generally, applicants must be at least 18 years old. When parents or guardians apply for Canadian citizenship for their children, there are other requirements. They must have permanent residency in Canada for at least three of the past four years. They must also have knowledge of English or French and are not subject to any restrictions due to their criminal history.

Marrying a Canadian citizen does not make you a citizen. First, you need to apply for permanent residency, and then apply for Canadian citizenship. Canadian law also allows dual citizenship.

Naturalization test

You also need to prepare for the national exam. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 54 who meets the basic requirements of a citizen must take the exam. Those who apply for retention of citizenship also need to attend the exam.

The purpose of this test is to assess your knowledge of Canada. In the written test or personal interview, you need to answer the following questions:

*The rights and duties of citizens

Choose a program

*The physical and political geography of Canada

*Canada’s historical and social cultural symbols

* Canadian political history

Usually, you will receive the Canadian citizenship test letter about a month in advance, and there is not enough time to prepare for the test. Applicants must take 20 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible answers. The answer sheet is separate from the test paper. You must answer 80% of the questions to pass the test. If you fail the written test, you must have an interview with a citizenship judge (30-90 minutes). We will verbally ask you some test questions to give you a chance to prove again that you meet the citizenship requirements. However, the first attempt is more difficult and better.
