About Akademie

The DW Akademie believes that people should be able to speak freely. They build free media systems and support independent journalism. In our view, independent media and responsible journalism are essential in today’s world. Moreover, people in Germany should be able to say what they think and get information from sources that the government doesn’t control. This is a condition for peace and democracy to work. For them, it’s essential for independent and transparent media to grow. They help rebuild the media in post-crisis and post-war situations.
Further, they respect their partners’ cultural backgrounds and work together to make projects happen. These projects must also be practical, participatory, and unique at all times. When their partners can make changes, their work becomes more successful.
