“Fantastic News For Those Willing To Migrate” Learn about Your Relocation Options Using the UK Government’s International Relocation Payment Support Program.

This post will guide you through the steps of starting your application process. The International Relocation Payment (IRP) provides a one-time payment of £10,000 to qualified non-UK language and physics teachers and trainees. This payment is intended to help with visa costs, the immigration health cost, and numerous other relocation charges.

The IRP is a financial lifeline for educators and trainees all over the world who want to educate and teach in English schools. Eligible applicants can expect to receive the IRP at the end of their initial term, with no repayment required.

In addition, qualified trainee teachers are eligible for both the IRP and supplementary bursaries or scholarships. It is worth noting that the IRP is now being performed as a pilot program during the academic year 2023-2024.

 Eligibility

You must meet below three main conditions to be eligible for the International Relocation Payment (IRP):

1. Teaching Subject Requirement

You must be working at an English state secondary school for the 2023-2024 academic year, which runs from September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2024. Your contract must be for at least one year and you must be in one of the following roles:

  • Physics teacher
  • General or combined science teacher (with a focus on teaching physics).
  • Language teacher (except for English).

If you teach more than one subject, physics, general/combined science, or a language must account for at least 50% of your classroom time. During the application process, the Department of Education will verify this. Various subject combinations are examples of qualifying positions, provided that at least one component meets the necessary criteria. State schools are supported by the UK government and serve students aged 11 to 16 or 11 to 18. Teaching in a school exclusively for students aged 16 to 18 disqualifies you. Contracts that last more than a year are also eligible.

2. Visa Type

You must enter England on one of the visa types indicated, which include skilled worker visas, youth mobility programmes, family visas,  British National Overseas visa, High Potential Individual visa, and others. Some visas can be applied for from within or outside the UK, while others must be applied for from outside the UK.

3. Arrival Date:

Your move to England should occur no more than three months before your job’s start date.

Who Are Those Ineligible To Apply For The IRP

You will not be eligible for the IRP if you are:

  • A citizen of the United Kingdom, including people from Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
  • An Irish national.
  • A non-UK citizen who moved to England permanently more than three months before your work start date.
  • You are in England on a dependant partner visa, which is tied to your partner’s skilled worker or student visa.
  • English is the only language taught.
  • Employed for a period of less than one year.
  • Employed by a recruitment agency; your contract must be with the school directly, and your compensation must be paid by the school, not the agency.

How the scheme runs ?

Fee-paying trainees, salaried trainees, and teachers are all treated differently under the plan.

Trainees enrolled in fee-paying courses:- Trainees participating in fee-paying courses are exempt from submitting an IRP application. Instead, their training providers will pay the IRP directly to these trainees, together with any applicable bursaries. Fee-paying trainees should expect to get the IRP at the end of their first term.

Teachers as well as salaried trainees:- Teachers and salaried trainees who have started teaching or teacher training courses should apply for the IRP through the Get into Teaching website. The application window is open from September 4 through October 31, 2023. Individuals who are eligible should expect to receive the money by January 31, 2024. Those who miss this deadline must reapply at the next available chance after beginning their work or school in order to maintain IRP eligibility, with applications resuming in January 2024.
